Math Movie Project
Objective: Students will utilize photography and other technology to show how to find perimeter, area, and circumference.
Materials: camera/cell phone, computer, measuring tape, found objects
Procedures:
- Locate an object and take a picture: square, rectangle, circle, odd shaped
- Sketch the object on the recording sheet
- Measure the object and record the measurements
- Find the area, perimeter, or circumference (must have at least one of each)
- Create a storyboard for the movie showing the object, measurements, and how to solve each problem
- Put together the movie
- Share movie with class
Timeline:
- Monday, January 30- Review perimeter, area, circumference
- Tuesday, January 31- Introduce project and objectives
- Thursday, February 2- Find, measure, photograph objects and record information
- Friday, February 3- Complete area, perimeter, circumference calculations, Create storyboard
- Monday, February 6- Complete storyboard, share with peers and teacher to check work, learn movie program
- Tuesday, February 7- Create movie
- Wednesday, February 8- Movie share
Grade:
Picture/Recording- 20 points (pictures are clear, measurements recorded, and complete calculations)
Planning- 40 points (each picture is sketched, text is written completely, peer evaluation, teacher check)
Final product- 20 points (movie sticks to script, teaches lessons, work well together, finish on time)
Self- evaluation- 20 points (teams will give themselves a grade based on work)

Math Movie Project instructions
Gather all your materials: storyboard, recording sheet
- Go to www.animoto.com
- Click on sign in
- Email address: THE ONE YOU PUT IN
- Password: THE ONE YOU PUT IN
- Click Create Video (top right side)
- Select the style you wish to use
- Click create video
- Click Choose Music
- Preview selections and select the background music you want to use by clicking on the arrow beside the song- Do not upload your own song, only use what is available
- When you find your song, click add song
- Click Add Pictures
- Choose from your computer option, click upload and locate the pictures you took
- Select the pictures you want to upload by clicking on the picture and clicking open
- When you have all four pictures loaded, click on first picture and click add text
- Add your writing (you are limited too 22 characters on top and 30 characters on bottom, you may have to use more than one text slide to teach the topics)
- Click save
- Draw the text where you want it to go, before or after pictures
- When you are satisfied, click produce video and wait patiently and quietly
- When the video comes on your screen, highlight the web URL address
- Log in to Community Log in, go to Discussion Board: Math Movies
- Paste your movie URL address as the discussion post (Do this for all members of your group)
